From time to time, I would receive commissions from couples who were getting married to draw caricatures of them. These weren’t ongoing jobs, but rather drawings that came up on an ad hoc basis, each with its own story. For each illustration, the couple would send me photos of themselves along with information about their jobs, hobbies, or interests, so that I could capture not only their physical features, but also aspects of their personalities. The idea was to create a humorous and affectionate graphic memento, a little fun nod that reflected their bond.
