It has been a real pleasure to once again depict and bring to life the 20 figures of Ontinyent’s Gegants i Cabets for such a special project, as well as illustrating the rest of the elements, items and surprises that make up the deck.
‘Orelluts!’ is one of the major festive highlights connected to the 9è Aplec: a board game created around our local heritage, combining entertainment, humour and tradition, and born out of a desire to bring these beloved characters closer to the little ones in a fun and engaging way.
The most wonderful aspect of this project is its inclusive spirit: the game will be distributed to every child in Ontinyent aged between 0 and 12, bringing the magic of the festival straight into local homes and helping pass this tradition down to new generations.
How does the game work?
It consists of a 40-card deck designed for fast-paced games full of unexpected twists:
- 20 Character cards: Featuring illustrations of the Gegants, Cabets, Gegantons, the Tartuga, and the Àguila, which are responsible for awarding points.
- 20 Item & Action cards: A set of cards packed with instant actions, fun prompts (ranging from dancing or singing to reversing the direction of play or stealing cards from other players) and the key card that gives the game its name.
Behind ‘Orelluts!’ lies a tremendous amount of hard work, care and passion. I truly hope that both at home and in schools you enjoy playing and getting to know these cherished characters from our local celebrations even better.
